In order to comply with the
The Heating Company Warranty, the following Site
Instructions must be adhered to:
- Do not install unless connected to RCD Proctection.
- Attempt to position mats in the largest area where
solid furniture will not be placed. E.g. Either side
of beds, or in the middle of a living area. For the
correct lay out a site visit is generally required.
- Before you install the UCH mats, check that the
underlay has not been stapled to the substrate, or
that any other protusion is showing that may damage
the mats. IF THERE ARE STAPLES, THESE MUST BE REMOVED
or the manufacturers warranty will not apply. The
"trade instructions" clearly state that such an application
by the carpet layer, is not acceptable.
- Roll out the mat, taking into account where the
coldtail is to be positioned in the room in relation
to the thermostat position.
- Once placed roll back 50% of the mat and apply
hot glue in small sections to the back of the mat.
Adhere element to the underlay and wipe over the element
with your hands, ensuring there are no creases or
bumps and repeat to other 50% of the mat. Tape down
edges of all four sides of the mat to the underlay
with duct tape.
- To limit the UCH "termination block" being felt,
once the carpet is laid and to eliminate stress on
the element, please follow instructions (Termination
block = approximatey 15cm each side - where the label
is placed)
- Cut the "top only" of the underlay with a stanley
knife at the exact dimensions of the block area, until
the block fits snuggly and level with the underlay.
This will require patience, as the idea is NOT
TO REMOVE ALL THE UNDERLAY and to create THE
LEAST AMOUNT OF DEVIATION IN HEIGHT FROM THE BLOCK
AND THE REST OF THE UCH MAT.
- Apply duct tape over the termination block so to
secure in place.
- From the cold tail joint cut a line in the underlay
back to the thermostat position and wedge the cold
tail in the cut line. Endeavour to make the cold tail
lie flat.
- Tape over the cold tail track to secure position.
Ensure that the cold tail join is level with the underlay.
- Place the "slip cloth" over the UCH mat and position
until there is a 100mm overhang on all sides of the
mat.
- Spot glue the slip cloth to the underlay, on all
four corners and sides. It may be necessary to oversee
the rolling out of the carpet to ensure that the carpet
layer does not disturb, or damage the UCH installation.
Ensure that the heating mats switchboard sticker
supplied, is placed in the switchboard.
Very Important Notes:
- Where 2 mats are required please state,
on any order, the length of cold tail if longer
than 3 metres eg: Hallways.
- Where possible, place cold tails away
from traffic areas, and track back along walls,
to the thermostat position. For this purpose,
you will need to allow for extra length of cold
tails when ordering your mats. Attention to design!!
- When ordering your UCH mats from the
factory, indicate where you would like the termination
placed... any corner, any side. Again attention
to design. This will help the termination block
to stay away from traffic areas.
- UCH mats are not suitable for use on
stairs.
- UCH mats should never be folded, for
transit only rolled.
Electrician
- Wiring must be in place before heating can be
installed. Allowance must be made for extra heat
load as stated on the customer's quotation. Please
refer to wiring
instructions supplied with customer quotation.
- Supply and install one flush box Vertically
for each thermostat.
- Supply and install a draw wire from the flush
box down to the floor level as per wiring diagram.
- Supply and install sub circuit wiring to each
thermostat - Should be RCD circuit breaker
protected.
General
To ensure a prompt service please allow three weeks
from the time of order to installation, however we
are often able to supply in shorter lead times, if
required.
Please note:
Hotwire UCH mats should only be used in conjunction
with Hessian backed carpets or similar. It
is not suitable for foam or rubber backed carpets!
Very occasionally certain thinner carpets
may show/feel an imprint of the heating mats through
the carpet. Please check with your installer to
ensure your carpet and underlay is suitable. The
Heating Company will not take responsibility for
any imprinting once the heating mats have been laid.
Wattage design is dependant on
climate extremes and insulation factors. The Heating
Mats are manufactured @ 170 watts/m2. THC recommends
the following -
North Island = 80 watts/m2 of
the total room area. (40-50% cover)
South Island = 100 watts/m2 of
the total room area. (65% cover)
